The Danube Bike Trail

The Danube Bike Trail (aka the Danube Cycle Path or Donauradweg) is Europe's most popular bike trail. Every year thousands set out to do all or part of the 2875 km [1786 miles] path.

It runs along the full length of the Danube; from Donaueschingen in Germany to the Black Sea. It passes through Germany, Austria, Slovakia, Hungary, Croatia, Serbia, Romania, Bulgaria and Ukraine.

I hired a bike and spent a day on  part of the path near the German town of Passau. From the photograph you can see the path is in very good condition. It is also next to a busy main road and there can be a lot of traffic noise.

Most of the path is on the banks of the river, but it does sometimes divert away from the river and not all of it is flat.

Bob Lucky cycled the section from Passau to Vienna and has a good trip report here.

Another good section to cycle might be the approx 125 km from Regensberg to Passau.
