Electronic Brains

In 2002 the BBC produced four 15 minute radio programmes about the early days of computing. These are still available in the BBC archive.

The first programme is on the LEO computer, the second on Remington Rand and UNIVAC, the third on the first Russian computer, and the final one on the MONIAC hydraulic computer.

You can stream the programmes but you cannot download them as mp4 files and listen to them on your iPod.  They date from the period when the BBC was in bed with Real Media and these are .rm [or .ram] files.

The BBC has started converting some Real Media files to mp4 files. They have done that with the entire In Our Time archive. I hope they will do the same with these four series. They have considerable educational value and need to be more accessible.
